Adjusted Utility Rate
Following a recent meeting between the Town Mayor, town representatives, and Cochiti Community Development Corporation (CCDC), all parties worked collaboratively to reach a fair and reasonable solution.
As a result of this discussion:
- The originally proposed rate of $195 has been reduced.
- The new monthly utility flat rate will be $150.
Effective Date
- The adjusted rate of $150 per month will take effect on January 1, 2026.
Account Credits
- Residents who have already paid the $195 rate will receive a credit applied to their account for the overpayment for January.
- No additional action is required from residents for this adjustment.
This adjustment reflects a balance between rising operational costs and the goal of maintaining affordability for residents while ensuring continued utility services for the Town of Cochiti Lake.
Reason for increase
The Town of Cochiti Lake operates under a flat-rate utility structure. Individual water usage, sewage disposal, and trash services are not metered, meaning residents receive these services without usage limits. As a result, the flat rate must account for the full cost of providing and maintaining these essential services.
Over the past year, there have been significant increases in the cost of waste disposal and trash services. Due to Cochiti Lake’s remote location, hauling, disposal, and operational costs have continued to rise beyond previous levels. These increases directly impact the cost of maintaining reliable utility services for the community.
